Toby Keith Biggest & Baddest Tour

How often is “work” the coolest thing that happened in your day? Sometimes, it IS a very cool day! Today, even as a business owner I am giddy, back in high school, and a “groupie”! Today; although ALL of our customers are super special…today…a very special trailer crossed its path across our yard and we were honored to have had the opportunity to serve :) YES, TOBY KEITH’S TRAILER WAS IN MY SHOP FOR REPAIR!

HOW DO YOU LIKE ME NOW? I think every woman has a “list”. No matter how much you might love your husband or your kids, each woman has “that little special list” of “those men” that are movie stars or superstar singing artists that spark their imaginations or fantasies. Now, for me at least…my list is varied and robust. My “list” usually involves looks, attitude, and performance…not always in that order, but all important. After all…it is THE LIST...that LIST of folks that touch you on so many levels that are yet so untouchable in the real world. Toby Keith has been on my list since the first day I laid ears on his music, then saw him in a photo, dissected his lyrics, researched his life a bit, and finally saw him in person on my wedding anniversary when my gracious husband bought me tickets (by surprise…and surprises are not my husband’s strong suit :). Let’s just say I’M A HUGE FAN!!!...even a PAID member of his fan club, and I NEVER joined a fan club in my life…not even Willie’s :)

As a person who had a strong career for 20 years in the casino industry prior to going into business with my husband, I’ve met thousands of VIP’s. Throughout those years, my “list criteria” has become more rigid as most celebrities are not what they seem in person. I have not met Toby Keith in person, which is probably a good thing as the disappointments in those meetings after some years make you wish NOT to ever meet another one sometimes :) However, I believe in his music, I just love his style, and Lord only knows he does have that “eye candy” appeal, even to an older redneck like me. List people can get you in trouble if you think on them too long…just look, wink, and enjoy what they do.

I was so happy when Toby came upon the music scene and a musician was finally again allowed on my list. For many years, I had been relying on the same old list :)…when it came to musicians. Musicians have such a harder pair of shoes to fill in order to make a woman’s “list” because they much touch you on many levels whereas a movie star can make a list with looks alone or a talking voice alone sometimes…they “play” characters, so a character can make a list…Anthony Hopkins is a perfect example of that…who can’t admire the spooky unbelievable talent of Hannibal Lechter? Willie, as in Nelson is one of the few musicians that is on my list that has remained…year after year…tried and true and for life. Remember, I said looks wasn’t most important :)

My singer (band) list always included the outlaws…be it country or rock and roll, or the guys that could make my eye leak, or make me laugh, and touch me with LYRICS...usually BOTH in order to make my favorite list. Waylon, Willie, David Allen Coe, Jerry Jeff Walker, REO Speedwagon, Journey, Tom T Hall, Pink Floyd, Hoyt Axton, Styx, Bad Company, Ozzie (only because of Mama I’m Coming Home), Aerosmith, The Who, Stevie Nix & Fleetwood Mac, The Gatlin Brothers, The Oakridge Boys, The Statler Brothers, Heart, Melissa Ethridge, Carley Simon, Joni Mitchell (had to include some worthy women), etc. However, few remain at the top.

Newer singers are on my list of great…Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks sometimes, George Straight sometimes…but he’s so damn straight (pun intended), Kenny Chesney, but they are all just so-so and while the concerts are fun and all, they just can’t hang on the list ALWAYS AND EVERY DAY. Toby Keith is a “keeper”. He’ll remain on my list until he’s like talking about Willie, Waylon, or Hoyt. The reason I picked that analogy is that when I first began to hear him he was like a strange mixture of all three. I would think to myself that what I was hearing was one of them, and it was a song of theirs I’d never heard…but NO…IT WAS A NEW GUY! Toby had me at hello :)

I must tell my “Toby Stories” to explain my rabid fan status while going to the shop today to take the photos that are in this story. I’m a busy woman. Dealing to celebrities for years, and having met so many…I wouldn’t normally stop my duties as a business owner to be silly and take photos in front of a trailer that will in no way ever lead me to meet the “man”. If I did ever meet the man, I would love nothing more than to just invite him to our home for a steak & cocktails with his wife or band, and hopefully for some fun “jam time” so he could teach my husband to actually play some of the guitars he owns :) Toby is just another guy like us all and my beautiful home is just a little smaller than his beautiful home, and it would just be so cool to sit and treat a celebrity like anybody else and I think they wish for that too.

However, I am a big fan…and my first Toby story is this: Dealing in a casino one day, I was dealing to some average cool guys that were funny enough, tipped once in a while, and were just average pleasant guys on my table. Music is piped in, and as you sit at a gaming table, there is always either a live band available, or piped in music to enhance the experience. As we mulled along playing cards, I’m dealing…listening to these guys talk amongst themselves. A dealer knows that at the moment your players are talking to each other, you’ve lost the money making ability… I heard one of them say something about somebody having somebody else’s ass. He said it loudly, common enough as it was like a conversation about boss/employee, or husband/wife type comment, but his volume in voice caused them to look up at me dealing. One of Toby’s songs was playing on the “wire” and I made the comment, something to the effect that I didn’t know who they were talking about but Toby could have my ass anytime :), of course I immediately followed that up with “not really, I’m married…but a fan nonetheless”.

The guys laughed incessantly…it was weird. I thought to myself that it wasn’t “that funny” what I said, but then one of the guys spoke up and said…”We’re gonna tell him what you said”. I thought, yea right! They said they were from Oklahoma and lived rightdown the road from Toby’s farm and they were gonna tell him that some crazed blackjack dealer in Reno was all giddy and crazy over him. Don’t know if they ever did…but that was strange to make a simple “typical chick” comment about a star on a woman’s “list” and then have “average Joe’s” actually KNOW HIM.

My second story leads to my concert experience. I have been fortunate with my husband that we love music and love attending concerts. We’ve seen many great ones in the Reno/Tahoe area. However, my husband KNEW that a TOBY concert would be huge for me. Driving up the mountain to Tahoe from Reno is arduous if you live here. You can’t go to a concert and not liquor up a little bit, so getting a room is mandatory for a fun time. He told me in advance that we were going, so I began to research Toby online. I found out that if you are a fan club member you can submit a story and have a chance to win a “meet & greet” with him. I tried, didn’t win, but it was super exciting all the same. I had fun trying to be “the fan” that scored enough points to win. I told my dealing story, I even offered him a free B-Service on his truck if he was ever in the area. Blah-Blah…didn’t score :)

My third Toby story is the concert itself. I wore an American flag shirt, dressed to the nines in my Rocky jeans and boots. For an old broad, I don’t look so bad still with long blonde hair and a Texas attitude to match :) One of my shop managers is a music freak too and writes music. His dream is to have any star, some star just look at a song and weather he took it or not…just to have a star play one of his songs once. I had a cap from our company, an American Truck & Trailer Repair hat that I wanted so badly to give to Toby Keith. I knew a T-Shirt would be out of the question…too bulky…but a hat I could give him. We taped discreetly inside the hat some music that my manager Westley Guin wrote, and my plan was to find a quiet corner of the stage at the concert and merely toss that hat to Toby. Toby is All American and I thought the least I could do would be to give him a hat.

I quietly marched down the most outer isle of the concert even though I had up front seats. I intended to toss my hat and WOAH!! I was stopped by a very large woman in security that happened to be of color, a black woman. I went back to my seat and waited. I then attempted to try every isle in the venue at varioustimes…with no success. On my last attempt, this very dedicated to her job large black woman shook her finger in my face like only the true wonderful women like that can. She wove her finger in my face and said, “Sister…if I have to tell you ONE MORE TIME…” and I knew. It is SO NOT LIKE me to raise a scene; I went back to my seat and

sulked. Security woman told me that if she let me toss a hat on stage, then someone else would toss a beer bottle, etc. She wouldn’t even just take my hat and lay it upon the edge of the stage and she had the credentials to do so.

I loved her. I love rebels within reason, and I especially love rebels with the right cause…but I had never tried to be one myself, tried to that night, but I appreciated the fact that at least on that night at Harvey’s in Tahoe…Toby was safe. This woman wouldn’t even let a middle aged 43 year old woman flip a soft ball cap onto the stage. I thought of myself as a business owner and knew that I wished all my employees were that dedicated to their duties.

NOW TWO YEARS LATER…Toby Keith’s band trailer ends up in my shop. He doesn’t even know about the sundry day to day goings on that keep him on the road, but I had a great time fanaticizing. It was a good day, and if I ever get to meet the man and/or his family it will be a good day :) Sing on Toby! His greatest hits are of course the fun ones…but don’t think that true fans wouldn’t like a private serenade of some others, Blue Bedroom is a cool song because of the musical transitions…other songs just fit me that didn’t necessarily make it to #1. Every song he sings is a top ten to me :)

Toby, although you had no part to play in it, it was an honor to have your trailer in our shop and many of us at American Truck & Trailer Repair, or our other pickup shop Dynamic Diesel, Inc. are huge fans. Even my little dog Scooter that comes to work with me came to say hi :) Thanks for some fun today and making a now 45 year old woman feel like a school girl again. And DAMN that bitch that didn’t appreciate you writing her phone number on the 50 yard line :) I hope her radio haunts her to this day :)

Spencer & Barbara Dance Team - He's 25 - She's 84

Well, just when you think you have seen it all! Check out this dance team, dancing to “The Hardest Part” by Coldplay. He, Spencer is 25 years old, SHE, Barbara is 84 YEARS OLD. Amazing stuff. As the person that sent this to me said, “Should she be congratulated or institutionalized :)” Way to go Barbara! I am amazed by people that keep age just a number. She is an inspiration.

Asia Meets The Blues - Meet Sungha Jung

When our forefathers created the rules of this great nation, they invited persons of ALL races, religions, and walks of life to embrace our culture. As our nation was young, and blossomed, so did our music. There was never a greater “joiner” of races than when the elder black generation gave us the God given blessing of the Blues.

This young man, Sungha Jung, is far too young to really understand this. However, he could give some old folks a lesson in making the emotion of music come out on an acoustical guitar. As you listen, you might think, "What...The Beatles sang Come Together, that's a ROCK song". Well, you listen to Sungha play it. I say he's not only led Asia to meet the Blues, he's just proven how Blues met Rock! Sungha has a large future and great success coming his way. WAY TO GO KIDDO! The mixing of native percussion beats in conjunction with good old fashion blues, that led to rock and roll makes this kid a future American Star! AND, it's proof that a very young man has a great understanding of music theory and origination.

Bill Maher Was My Birthday Present

I spent my 45th birthday with Bill Maher. Why, you might ask? Well, after the evening was over, (perfect as it was), I asked myself the same question :)

My evening started with dinner at my favorite restaurant (Sterlings at Silver Legacy). I had my usual crab cake appetizer with a salad and filet mignon as an entrée. My boys came to the restaurant earlier in the day and delivered a dozen roses (in which were 13…lucky me got an extra one :) and a spa gift card. So when I got to my reserved table, I had flowers and a present with Happy Birthday sequins scattered all over the table cloth. My husband gave me a dozen roses earlier in the day with a card, so all was romantic and perfect. The maitre ‘de was more than cordial as always, and the waiter kept the 7&7 glass full :)

Six O’clock dinner reservations led to 9th row, center stage tickets to Bill Maher. One might ask why I would do such a thing on my 45th birthday. Well, I try to recognize talent where talent is due, and even though we sit on WAY different sides of the fence, Mr. Maher is talented. I will listen to two democrats for entertainment purposes. One is Bill Maher, and the other is Whoopi Goldberg. There is also a little truth to “keeping your friends close, but keeping your enemies closer”. One needs to know just what the other side is thinking. Without actually listening to a bleeding heart liberal, you cannot dispute what they say.

I must say, that I’m glad I had the experience, but it was a bit difficult to admire the talent of one such as Bill Maher, and yet believe that he was trying to make a thousand or so of us actually believe what he was saying. Lucky he’s at least funny, for the mere content of his show is sad. But one of normal knowledge knows that if you voluntarily go to a show like his, you’ll get some liberal dust on your collar. What was really sad was the fact that so many people actually buy into that mentality.

We all know that with any concert, or any show…as folks gather at the booze line, and in the “lobby” before entering and finding their seats, there is always hype and excitement. Everybody’s always excited and eager to see the star they bought tickets for. However, this was the first time I ever chose by free will to go and see a true liberal. I never realized that when you congregate so many left wingers in the same space, you can actually smell liberalism. The air is thick with the stench of fiction and self righteousness. I stand in the booze line and I listen to several “dozen of my “friends” around me” buzz with excitement of the upcoming show, and their mere human pleasantries to each other, and their mortal conversation leads me to feel sorry for them, and also want to kick their parents straight in the teeth for the fact that these people were not raised to know the truth about this nation or its government. These people float around on a cloud of what the fuck, and have not one clue of true reality or the principles that this nation was founded upon. No wonder other nations hate us. These liberals have no balls, and are drowning in a quagmire of the fog of one resounding word…TOLERANCE.

I listened to Bill Maher, and yes, I did laugh when he was funny. See, even if I don’t agree, I have a bitch side to me that knows even some cut downs are funny. If he had been Dennis Miller, I probably would have laughed and gotten excited all at the same time. It’s a strange thing though watching someone so funny that is so against all that you believe. I tried to find a common ground with him, and it was tough. Most plays, concerts, documentaries, etc. have a theme…and as with all top notch talents, so did Bill Maher. His whole basis of his speech was that TOLERANCE will get us all through. Well, ya know…tolerance is good to a point, but at the point me tolerating you gets in the way of the principal of sanity…guess what? TOLERANCE BECOMES LEFT WING MOONBAT IGNORANCE! So, if you actually believe that if we tolerate Islamic radicals, and tolerate flaming homosexual behavior and their open acceptance on our streets and in front of our children, and actually tolerate government spending out of control with “pork” to those that stroke us, and tolerate elected officials that are more hell bent on filling our minds with bickering and fear mongering about environmental issues that exceed the common sense knowledge of no littering and poisoning the waters and the air excessively, and tolerate “leaders” that never even think about what THE PEOPLE would actually vote for, and tolerate illegal criminals that slither over our borders and suck the financial life out of us because “they deserve” “help”, then we also TOLERATE FAILURE.

Bill Maher has a lot of nerve standing up on a stage and defending all these things to the “poor man”, and acting like he’s actually sacrificing anything on a poor man’s behalf, as he’s sitting atop a bank account with six or seven figures in it. He ranted on and on a bit about “corporate America”. Yes, big corporate America has some flaws, but I’m sitting there as a small business owner that tries incessantly to provide for my employees, pay my vendors, serve my customers above par, and manage my own household at the same time and stay in the black all at the same time. Both my companies have employees, customers, and vendors. And they are both “corporations”. Therefore, I feel like I am corporate America. The results and the reality I have to bring to my life to stay afloat would sink in a moment, in the blink of an eye, if I were TOLERANT like Mr. Maher suggests that I should be. As a part of CORPORATE AMERICA, it’s imperative that I balance my little local budgets, and my spending, my company health insurance benefits, and my 401K investments to a fragile point to make sure that all involved still stay in the black. It’s a bit of work and juggling, but not impossibility, or I would be one of those “tolerated” on the welfare line getting it all for free.

But back to giving credit where credit is due…and at the expense of taking a lot of shit for the following comments… I think marijuana should be legal, and as with all grownup humans…or at least most of us…I didn’t meet my current husband a virgin. I as a woman kissed a few frogs before meeting a “prince”, and do most women or men. I’m sorry for Ann Coulter that she had to kiss the frog Bill Maher just to realize that he wasn’t going to be “that guy”. But as a woman, I’ve let a frog or two go over the years that will always remember. Ms. Coulter, he still remembers you…although by his comments in his show, it’s obvious why you let that frog go. I’d always heard that those two had a “thing” at one time, but he saves the best for last in his ramblings.

Bill Maher made a comment at the end of his show (paraphrasing) that Ann Coulter gets a bad rap sometimes. He said, (paraphrasing), that “she’s not like that when she’s cuming”, and then he tried to dodge the “secret bullet” by saying something like “I would never fuck a Republican, would I?” To Ann, his loss, and your lesson girlfriend, no worries, (we’ve all done it :) If you weren’t a woman worth remembering, he wouldn’t mention you at the end of the show when the best punch line is saved. He’d bring you up in the middle with all the other stuff that he was delusional about :) At any rate, Happy Birthday to me, it was a magical night!

Big White Hat - Influential Music

Big White Hat’s at it again :) Who were/are the most INFLUENTIAL musicians?

Well BWH…damn ya, darn ya…there you go making me think again :) (No wonder you won the "Thinking Blogger's Award"). So hard to pick five. AND, when you back off of favorite, and strictly think influential…there were so many! Your scenario of your work is funny…you see…back in the day…crap dealers too had a fair amount of time on their hands some days, and of course “we’re too above” trivial chatter, we would come up with games like these to pass the time intellectually in order to make ourselves seem quite educated and im-po-tent :)

Here’s my list…and some of them I don’t even like that much :o) My list doesn’t fall in any particular order, as I believe that depending on which generation you are in…your guy is the most influential…

1. The Beatles

2. BB King

3. Elton John

4. Elvis Presley

5. Hank Williams, Sr.

BUG - The Movie - IN YOUR BLOOD EATING YOUR BRAIN!

OK horror movie creep lovers…FINALLY, a new movie is being released that will spark your screeches and wiggles for real. Not since the Exorcist, has such quality in horror hit the big screen. Lionsgate Films has teamed with the academy winning director William Priedkin (The Exorcist and The French Connection), to bring us BUG. There hasn’t been a really believable and “creepy-crawly” bug movie released in a very long time.

Imagine Agnes, a down and out waitress just trying to get by and escape the regular horror of a mean and abusive husband. After finally beginning to live again, and attempting romance with a sexy drifter…THE BUGS COME! The bugs live in her blood and FEED ON HER BRAIN (is your skin crawling yet?). In a world where nothing is as it seems, and reality is nightmarish…Lionsgate Films chose the stunningly beautiful, down to earth, and extremely believable Ashley Judd to star in this unimaginably disturbing bug movie. The film also stars Michael Shannon, Lynn Collins, Brian O’Byrne, and the very popular Harry Connick, Jr.

If the story line, the cast, and the director aren’t enough to draw patrons to the theater, the movie posters surely will entice the artistic doubters. Brilliant spooky art splashes one poster, creating a giant bug with Ashley Judd’s silhouette embedded in the bug’s body, and its feelers created from wisps of long hair. Apparent splotches of blood create optical illusions of other bug parts, or by-products perhaps. Perhaps it’s the bug’s dripping fangs that cause the spots. The other movie poster features a shadowy serious pose of Ms. Judd…with a silhouette of her co-star embedded within her face. They share the same eye, giving the appearance of like thought, but the mystery of difference as he’s turned away, and apparently living inside her head…much like the bugs! Very mysterious bug movie indeed. BUG – IN THEATERS MAY 25TH. This post sponsored by Bug.

Who...Who Are You? - The Who - That's Who

Photo Sharing - Upload Video - Video Sharing - Share Photos

Yes...Yes I DO have 10th row floor seats for this concert this evening. I will be rocking tonight! Hopefully, I won't be too hung over tomorrow to come back and update with a story of how fabulous the show was!

I must go now...dinner reservations at 6pm...at Sterling's Seafood & Steakhouse at the Silver Legacy...then off to The Who. Wish you could be here :)

UPDATE:

Yes, the show was amazing. There aren't quite words to describe an awesome show. Well worth the price of the tickets! We were on the 10th row with center isle seats. The band rocked non-stop for more than two solid hours and brought the house down. The Who easily ranks right up there with the known show bands Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, and Aerosmith. Great show, great time!

Britney Spears Rehab Whirlwind

Photo Sharing - Upload Video - Video Sharing - Share Photos

Some people just DON’T LEARN. Britney Spears is spiraling downward at lightening speed, headed directly for rock bottom with no get out of jail free card. People close to the slushed out diva have begged her for some time to get help before she crashes and burns, but Miss Spears can’t seem to agree.

After being caught on TV recently with her privates exposed, collapsing on New Year’s Eve, being seen looped out of her gourd all over the place, Britney checked into rehab earlier this week, but stayed less than 24 hours. Spears checked into Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Centre in Antiqua, but could only handle one day of sobriety before heading off to Florida.
You’d think after watching Anna Nicole’s dead ass splashed all over the television screen lately, she’d think twice. Oh well, another huge potential soon to be reduced to slutty rubbish. What a shame.

State Map Test - Third Grade - You Try It

Photo Sharing - Upload Video - Video Sharing - Share Photos

OK…let’s have some educational fun. I thought this would be no big deal…WHOA…It’s harder than it looks. This was a test given third graders before passing into the fourth grade. See how quickly you can “drag & drop” each state to its appropriate spot on the map of the USA. I found it a bit embarrassing that I struggled on a few, actually…I struggled pretty hard on a few. I think you are all probably very smart though and will fair nicely. It’s fun, and if you have children of the third to fourth grade, bookmark the site, it’s a fun way to learn geography and you could incorporate naming the capital city as you place each one. Good luck!

Anna Nicole Smith Death Tape

Oh for Pete’s sake…will the real father please stand up? Goodness, gracious, I certainly hope something worthwhile happens in the world immediately so that my television isn’t bombarded on every channel with the “NOT” news of the dead drama queen slut Anna Nicole Smith. Somebody paid $500,000 for the video embedded at the top of this story. Now, there’s a good waste of enough money to feed hundreds of starving children for a very long time.

Autopsy results today revealed nothing substantial (I’m shocked), and it will be three to five weeks until final results are released pending toxicology findings. She’s been terminally stoned and wasted every time I’ve seen her on television for as many years as I can remember. Around our house, we call that condition “Perma-Fried”. Anna Nicole can now join the ranks of other Perma-Fried celebrities such as Bob Dylan, Dean Martin, Ted Kennedy, Paris Hilton, and others.

If all the bad publicity surrounding this dead diva hasn’t been enough in recent weeks, now Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband Prince Frederick von Anhalt says he had a lengthy and torrid affair with the psycho bombshell and thinks HE may be the father of infant daughter Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stark (gotta’ get ALL the appropriate last names in there for effect).
The ONLY SAD and disturbing thing coming from all this is the little girl Dannielynn. She had no hope for any kind of a future with a nut job mother like Anna Nicole, and in my opinion (which this whole post is…just my ignorant opinion)…that creepy wanna-be celeb lawyer Howard K. Stern is no choice for a role model either. Hopefully, when all the dust settles, poor baby Dannielynn will be placed with loving people who will raise her in a good and decent home. It’s never the kids’ fault, and it is a true shame that repugnantly hopeless people like Anna Nicole Smith are even allowed to reproduce, and if I were any of the multitudes of men that claim to have donated sperm, I certainly wouldn’t admit to screwing a classless woman like Anna Nicole. Good luck Dannielynn, may you find hope, grace, and love in your future…and may your life NOT be clouded with haunts of paparazzi.

Puff The Magic Dragon - XXX Rated Beware

I stated XXX rated, it is. Please scroll down through all the memories, and please do not shoot me for the photos at the end :)

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea. And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee. Little jackie paper loved that rascal Puff,And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail. Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail, Noble kings and princes would bow wheneer they came, Pirate ships would lower their flag when puff roared out his name.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee, Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea and frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

A dragon lives forever but not so little boys. Painted wings and giant rings make way for other toys. One grey night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more. And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar.

His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain, Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane. Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave, So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave.

Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea. And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee. Puff, the magic dragon lived by the seaAnd frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called honah lee.

One of my favorite songs by Peter, Paul, and Mary.

AND THEN HE SMOKED CRACK!!

I do NOT promote vulgarity on this site, but this one I could not resist. Puff the magic dragon was always one of my childhood favorites. I do NOT know if this is a real tattoo, or just painted henna art, but either one, this nut job had to go through some pain to make this happen. Why do I have evil funny thoughts when I see something like this, and why did I laugh so hard? Not only is this guy a total oddball for this act on his own body that in church we are taught “the body is the temple of the Lord, respect it as such”, and yet the evil side of me thinks, “WHAT A BLOODY WORK OF STUPID ART!”

Broken Flowers = HORRIBLE MOVIE

share video
Share Video and Photos at DropShots.com

What has happened to Bill Murray? I thought Lost In Translation was bad... this movie SUCKED! It's about a commited bachelor that gets a mysterious letter written on pink stationary telling him he has a son. It's unsigned with no return address, and he sets off on a journey to see past girlfriends to try and find the boy. So, we watch him visit four total dipshit women, we never find out who the son is, and just when you are not sure you can stand any more, but keep watching thinking it MUST get better...all of a sudden the credits roll. Sharon Stone and several other really recognizable women are in this movie...I couldn't believe it's so bad. I usually wait to see a movie when it comes in the mail through NetFlix, so most of you already knew this news. If not...SAVE YOUR THREE DOLLARS!

CLICHE'S: Common Sayings - Where They Come From

In George Washington's days, there were no cameras.  One's image was either sculpted or painted.  Some paintings of George Washington showed him standing behind a desk with one arm behind his back while others showed both legs and both arms.  Prices charged by painters were not based on how many people were to be painted, but by how many limbs were to be painted. Arms and legs are "limbs," therefore painting them would cost the buyer more.  Hence the expression, "Okay, but it'll cost you an arm and a leg."

As incredible as it sounds, men and women took baths only twice a year (May and October)!  Women kept their hair covered, while men shaved their heads (because of lice and bugs) and wore wigs.  Wealthy men could afford good wigs made from wool.  They couldn't wash the wigs, so to clean them they would carve out a loaf of bread, put the wig in the shell, and bake it for 30 minutes.  The heat would make the wig big and fluffy, hence the term "big wig."  Today we often use the term "here comes the Big Wig" because someone appears to be or is powerful and wealthy.

In the late 1700s, many houses consisted of a large room with only one chair. Commonly, a long wide board folded down from the wall, and was used for dining. The "head of the household" always sat in the chair while everyone else ate sitting on the floor. Occasionally a guest, who was usually a man, would be invited to sit in this chair during a meal. To sit in the chair meant you were important and in charge.  They called the one sitting in the chair the "chair man."  Today in business, we use the expression or title "Chairman" or "Chairman of the Board."

Personal hygiene left much room for improvement.  As a result, many women and men had developed acne scars by adulthood.  The women would spread bee's wax over their facial skin to smooth out their complexions. When they were speaking to each other, if a woman began to stare at another woman's face she was told, "Mind your own bee's wax."  Should the woman smile, the wax would crack, hence the term "crack a smile"  In addition, when they sat too close to the fire, the wax would melt . . . therefore, the expression "losing face."

Ladies wore corsets, which would lace up in the front.  A proper and dignified woman, as in "straight laced". . . wore a tightly tied lace.

Common entertainment included playing cards.  However, there was a tax levied when purchasing playing cards but only applicable to the "Ace of Spades."  To avoid paying the tax, people would purchase 51 cards instead. Yet, since most games require 52 cards, these people were thought to be stupid or dumb because they weren't "playing with a full deck."

Early politicians required feedback from the public to determine what the people considered important.  Since there were no telephones, TV's or radios, the politicians sent their assistants to local taverns, pubs, and bars.  They were told to "go sip some ale" and listen to people's conversations and political concerns. Many assistants were dispatched at different times.  "You go sip here" and "You go sip there."  The two words "go sip" were eventually combined when referring to the local opinion and, thus we have the term "gossip."

At local taverns, pubs, and bars, people drank from pint and quart-sized containers. A bar maid's job was to keep an eye on the customers and keep the drinks coming. She had to pay close attention and remember who was drinking in "pints" and who was drinking in "quarts," hence the term "minding your "P's and Q's."

In the heyday of sailing ships, all war ships and many freighters carried iron cannons.  Those cannons fired round iron cannon balls.  It was necessary to keep a good supply near the cannon.  However, how to prevent them from rolling about the deck?  The best storage method devised was a square-based pyramid with one ball on top, resting on four resting on nine, which rested on sixteen.  Thus, a supply of 30 cannon balls could be stacked in a small area right next to the cannon.  There was only one problem...how to prevent the bottom layer from sliding or rolling from under the others. The solution was a metal plate called a "Monkey" with 16 round indentations.
However, if this plate were made of iron, the iron balls would quickly rust to it. The solution to the rusting problem was to make "Brass Monkeys." Few landlubbers realize that brass contracts much more and much faster than iron when chilled. Consequently, when the temperature dropped too far, the brass indentations would shrink so much that the iron cannonballs would come right off the monkey.  Thus, it was quite literally, "Cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey."  (All this time, you thought that was an improper expression, didn't you.)
